NAPIC

Norwegian Association for Private Initiative in Cambodia

Our main objectives are to enhance the upbringing and educational possibilities for those poorest in the society.

We are doing this by providing primary education, daily meals and medical and dental assistance to children living in extreme poverty and often in dysfunctional families.

We provide free additional education to poor high school students to enable them to get a scholarship for further studies or compete for better paid jobs. We provide social learning workshops and motivate parents to learn a skill and get a job to be able to support their families.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Poor families from all over the country come to this region searching for work and a better life in the capital. When they are unable to find work or housing, they live in slums formed on the outskirts of the city. Many families lack everything from food and clean water to clothes and basic health services. The sanitary conditions are often quite poor. Many children do not have the opportunity to attend school because they need to work or look after younger siblings, or because their family does not have money for uniforms or school materials.

Women and children are particularly at risk, and violence and sexual assault is common. Many women die from complications during and after birth. This is the most common cause of death for women between 15 and 49 years old. The children left behind often end up in orphanages or living on the streets, and are in danger of being taken advantage of.

CAMBODIA
MALNUTRITION

99 %
of Cambodia Children have Stunted Growth
99 %
of Cambodia Child deaths are due to malnutrition

Cambodia has one of the highest percentage of child deaths and stunted growth due to inadequate intake of micronutrients, such as iron, calcium, and zinc, lack of clean water and unsanitary conditions.

Education is greatly needed for Cambodia mothers to teach them on nurture care, nutrients, hygiene, and assistance with their own nutrient supplement intake for a healthy mom and child.
